Health Services

  • Doing everything we can to help keep students healthy is a top priority. Each SouthWest Metro school has a health program that's supervised by a licensed school nurse. Responsibilities of the health office include: immunization compliance; health screening and assessments; reporting of communicable disease; implementing district policies; safety and emergency planning.

Health Care Plans

  • Students with specific health conditions may require special care or monitoring during the school day. The school nurse will determine the need for an individual health care plan with information provided by the parent/guardian and the child's physician. Physician's orders may be required for certain procedures. The health care plan will be shared with school staff on a need-to-know basis.

Illness, Injury, and Disease

  • ILLNESS OR INJURY
If a student becomes ill or is injured during the school day they will be referred to a school nurse. If the student needs to go home, the parent/guardian will be contacted. If they aren't available, then the emergency contact will be called.

    COMMUNICABLE DISEASES
Health services personnel follow the communicable disease guidelines outlined by the Minnesota Department of Health. At times, it may be necessary to exclude a student from school. Please refer to the Excusing Due to Illness Guidelines.
