EMERGENCY MEDICAL RESPONDER (EMR)

  • Fall Semester

    • Develop a foundation for working in hospitals, ambulances, fire departments, air care, and law enforcement.
    • Learn to identify and treat cardiac arrest, choking and initiate lifesaving care for critical patients

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (EMT)

  • Spring Semester

    Prerequisite: Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

    • Develop confidence and knowledge for working in hospitals, ambulances, fire departments, air care and law enforcement
    • Apply Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) skills in hands-on scenarios, simulations and event situations
    • Increase knowledge and skills necessary to identify and treat a range of injuries and illnesses

NURSE ASSISTANT (NAR)

  • Fall or Spring Semester

    • Develop the knowledge and skills necessary to work with residents in long-term care facilities
    • Learn and understand body systems and how aging can affect these systems
    • Gain certifications in basic first aid and CPR while preparing for the Minnesota State Nursing Assistant Registry Exam

MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY

  • Fall or Spring Semester

    • This course is an introduction to medical terminology and the language of medicine.
    • Students will gain an understanding of how complex medical terms are formed from Latin and Greek word parts utilizing root words, prefixes and suffixes.
    • Emphasis is placed on spelling and pronunciation of medical terms. This course can be taken for college credit

ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY

  • Fall or Spring Semester

    • This course is an introduction to the structure and function of the human body. 
    • Focus will be on the study of each individual organ system and the interaction of each system with the rest of the body.
    • This course can be taken for four college credits
